The Resource Centre at Helensvale State School opened in 1984, with a small collection of about 800 items. For the first year, a teacher-aide operated the Resource Centre in a part time capacity until a full time teacher-librarian was appointed in 1985. A manual borrowing and card catalogue system was in use for the first few years.
In 1990 the Resource Centre was fully automated using the OASIS library system. The introduction of automated borrowing, enquiry, and catalogue was of great assistance to the students and teachers. This system was upgraded regularly, as was the hardware required to run the system.
The year 2000 saw another great change for the Resource Centre system, with the change over from OASIS ( DOS based program) to ALICE for Windows. Regular upgrades of the system occur.
An extensive refurbishment of the Centre occured in 2007 with painting, re-carpeting, new furniture and air-conditioning.
The Resource Centre houses books, videos, computer software, charts, kits and reference works for a full range of curriculum areas.
All students use this pleasant area for recreational reading, lessons and borrowing.
Students may access Fiction books in three locations - Junior Fiction, Quarto Fiction and Fiction. The Non-Fiction areas for students are divided into Junior and Senior.
Teachers have access to an extensive Reference section as well as Teacher orientated resources.
