Principal' s Welcome

Welcome to the "virtual" Helensvale State School. The real school is located on 6 hectares of natural bushland in the Gold Coast suburb of Helensvale. Our community enjoys a generally high quality of life with most families living in their own homes in a specifically designed housing development which opened just over 30 years ago and is still growing to this day.

Our school is one of the largest in Queensland with a current enrolment of 1086 students from Preparatory Year to Year 7. There are 43 class groupings, in a combination of permanent open plan teaching spaces and temporary buildings. Our general teachers are supported by a number of specialist teachers. Our students enjoy lessons in the core learning areas of Literacy, Numeracy & Integrated Studies, as well as in Japanese, Physical Education, Technology and Music and have access to a well equipped resource centre. We encourage and support interschool competition in team sports, public speaking, musical performances and chess.

Helensvale operates on a site managed model which operates around our Annual Operational Plan and Annual Reporting process. We have used this flexibility to enhance improved student outcomes and we are proud of the way we go about making things better for our students.

Some significant aspects of our school include a commitment to middle phase of learning in years 4 to 7 and an early literacy enhancement program which operates in years Prep, 1, 2 and 3. Children with special needs are provided with extensive intervention services managed by our Special Needs Committee and enrolment in our two special education classes. We have direct internet access in all our class rooms and in the Resource Centre. Our Concert bands and orchestra are outstanding as are the results achieved in competitions designed to challenge our Gifted and Talented students. In state and national competitions our students regularly achieve outstanding results which supports the belief that we do things well at Helensvale. Specific performance data can be found elsewhere on our website in our annual report.

I hope you enjoy having a look through the great place that is Helensvale State School. If you have logged on from interstate or overseas and intend visiting the Gold Coast for a vacation, why not include a visit to us in your itinerary. We're down the road from Dreamworld and across the Motorway from Movieworld. It's a wonder we get anything done living in such a great part of the world!
