I respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians, the Kombumerri people, on whose land I have the privilege to live and work each day. I pay my respects to the Elders past and present and emerging.
Jingeri! At Helensvale State School, we foster a relationship and develop connection with the Kombumerri people of this land. All staff and students within our school engage with local knowledge.
As a school community, we access this learning through:
- School based Indigenous teacher aide (Identified) who mentors, tutors, facilitates professional development (Hidden Histories and Crossing Cultures) and connects with external organisations to manage significant events and build cultural intelligence.
- Ngarang-Wal Aboriginal Association comprises of Kombumerri descendants who guide school protocols and maintain integrity of traditional knowledge within the school environment.
- EATSIPS (Embedding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Perspectives in School) Committee fortnightly meetings (Open to families and community). This develops our school based Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
- Kalwun Health Services (Deadly Choices)
- Regional Support Programs for Extension Learning (Solid Pathways)
- Titans School Programs (Coaching Clinics, Healthy Lifestyles, Dream-Believe-Achieve and Tackling Bullying)
